Shimersville, Pennsylvania

Shimersville was named after Jacob Shimer, eldest son of Edward and Rosina Shimer. Edward Shimer is the fourth son of Jacob and Elizabeth Scheimer (AKA Jacob Scheimer, first Shimer in America). Shimersville has also been known as Shimerton, Shimertown, and Redington. Shimersville is not the same as Shimerville, which is located about 15 miles Southwest of Shimersville.

You can buy a copy of the History and Genealogy of the Shimer Family in America Volume I on Amazon. This article is featured in Volume II of The History and Genealogy of the Shimer Family in America. There are six volumes total.

  1. Interesting note on Shimerville/Shimersville also been known as Shimerton, Shimertown all referring to the southern bank of the Lehigh according to Allen R, and despite there is also the current Shimerville, PA 20 miles away it can get even more confusing. There are maps, such as the ones mentioned by the lower saucon township's Shimersville Historic Area page, which show another "Shimertown" as being just on the other side of the lehigh in Bethlehem.

For example in 1874 Shimertown/A.S. Shimer in Bethlehem:

Shimertown/Shimerville can be easily confused between the three spots.
